Yup, both girls have now pooped in the toilet!!!
The irony is that Livy started after Payton did it. But to explain I need to back up a bit.
When Livy was 6 months old I started researching toilet training in infants. It was actually quite interesting (worth looking into for any parent). We started out with Livy at 6 months and after a couple of weeks she would pee (within a few minutes) on the toilet every time I would sit her one it. After about a month of it we got lazy and stopped. At 8 months (or so) I tried putting her back on the toilet but she would have NOTHING of it. Our window of opportunity was lost and now here we are at 2.5 months and we're struggling.
But now Payton is at that ripe age of putting her on to train her as we did with Livy (and this time we're committed to staying the course).
Yesterday, Payton POOPED on the toilet. We were so crazy happy and we all did the happy dance.
Livy not to be outdone by her sister for the 1st time ever today POOPED on the toilet. Not once but TWICE!!! She we've officially cracked out the Smarties (insert trademark symbol here), the carrot we've been holding for the last 5 months or so. We also cracked out the big girl underwear and she's pretty happy about that.
We'll see how we do. For now we're all pleased as punch with the Livster though its also sad to see her 'grow' up with these very important milestones.
Now I must sign off because I just realized its 7:15pm and I have a very emotional 2.5 year old sitting on the toilet (by the way, her hour long stints are getting old already, sounds like she's taking after her daddy in that department) and crying. She need some mommy time to get us to bedtime tonight.
This is a story of our journey. There's no focus as our lives keep being pulled in different directions - its hard to focus when your not in one place long enough to get 'comfortable'.

Her 1st Tooth!!
She has a tooth! And she's handled the enagural teething experience like a champ.
We could see it pushing through on Saturday and as of yesterday it had officially broken the skin (of course I missed it as I was at a work event...grrr, this whole working thing is getting old already).
Here's a photo of the little trooper today (one day after her tooth popped through).
On another note, she's getting close to sitting on her own for more than 20 seconds (pretty soon we'll be able to leave her...well, maybe not soon yet).
Payton's also starting to push up on her knees and hands so her instincts are kicking in to initiate the crawling. It won't be long before she's into more than she should be.
Livy has been an active little one too. We have been working at getting her skating (independently) and at 2.5 years (and a little Prairie tough love teaching techniques like we both had) she's a pretty good little skater.
Here's her video:

She's mobile!!
Payton continues to amaze me. She's been improving with her development by leaps and bounds and I "think" she's caught up by now.
As of yesterday she's rolling over from front to back AND back to front. In fact, at midnight last night for her feed I woke up to her lying face down in her bassinette (so the crib converts back today and Livy will officially be bedless since the bassinette is no longer safe for Payton).
She's also getting quite good at manipulating her soother and it won't be long before she finds it herself rather than us having to rescue it.
She had her follow up with the ENT and she still has fluid in her ears so we give it another couple of months and hope that things improve. If not tubes in her ears may be in her future.
Livy continues to grow and amaze us with her intelligence, wit and humour. Its likely she'll be the class clown if things continue with how her personality is developing. Her new favourite thing is riding the bus and whenever Payton is preoccupied, Livy and Wilma take a bus trip to the library and home again. Its Livy's highlight of the day.
We've also started teaching Livy to learn to skate. Its quite hilarious as she complains that "its too slipery". She's figured out that she needs to point them forward to make it easier but we're still working on a few of the other particulars (like standing) that makes me think next year may be a more stellar year for success on the ice.
Dwayne and I continue to juggle early mornings in Vancouver (arriving at work between 6:30-7am), exercise and the girls and while it keeps us super busy, life is pretty perfect right now.
So that's a pretty quick synapsis of what our life is like starting out 2012. We can only hope that the upcoming year brings us as much happiness and success that we have seen over the last few months.
